Speaker: Scott Maxwell – CEO Wounded Warriors Canada

Topic: The Impact of Wounded Warriors - Past, Present and Future

On this Remembrance Day, Clarington Probus is honoured to welcome Scott Maxwell, Chief Executive Officer of Wounded Warriors Canada, for a powerful and timely presentation reflecting on service, sacrifice, and the evolving mission of one of Canada’s most respected support organizations.

Scott will guide us through the past, present, and future of Wounded Warriors Canada—beginning with its original mandate to support ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces members returning from service. He will share how the organization’s mission has grown in response to the changing landscape of trauma and operational stress injuries, with a particular focus on its current work supporting first responders who are experiencing PTSD and other mental health challenges. Today, Wounded Warriors stands as a national leader in trauma-informed programming, providing life-changing clinical services to those who serve and protect our communities.

Looking ahead, Scott will discuss the organization’s emerging international role, including its commitment to supporting defenders in Ukraine who are facing the psychological toll of prolonged conflict. This forward-looking initiative reflects Wounded Warriors’ belief that the duty to care extends beyond borders—and that Canada can play a meaningful part in helping those who stand on the front lines of global security.

Scott’s talk will weave together these threads—history, healing, and hope—into a compelling narrative about service and resilience. It promises to be an inspiring and deeply meaningful Remembrance Day presentation for all members of Clarington Probus.

Music has a unique way of bringing people together, breaking down barriers and creating a shared sense of belonging. Through laughter, joy, and familiar songs, communities grow stronger and more connected. Events filled with music lift spirits and remind us all how powerful it is to come together as one community.

Carl Stemond will be performing a live medley of classics from The Beatles, Elvis, Frank Sinatra, etc. He will do a Rod Stewart Tribute and sing some Christmas favourites that everyone can sing along to!

Topic: Safe Driving for Seniors

Being a mature, safe driver today means that you must continue your learning skills when driving a motor vehicle. You must assess and adapt to vehicle changes and also your physical changes. This one-hour multimedia event targets many changes that have happened over the years. Some of the topics discussed include:

• Update on the Rules of the Road as set down by the Ontario Highway Traffic Act

• Use of Seat Belts

• Strategies of Parking

• Strategies of Reversing

• The Staged Collision

• Seat, mirrors positioning and hands on wheel.

• Emergency vehicles and Tow trucks

• Left turns

• Traffic signals

• Speed

Robert Annan is a retired police officer, having served 38 years between the Toronto Police Service and the Durham Regional Police Service.

During his career Robert became the first collision Reconstructionist (an officer who investigates motor vehicle fatalities or collisions that may turn into a fatality) in the Regional Municipality of Durham.

He is actively involved in the community and across the province, spreading the word about collisions and how to prevent them and has been doing so since 1993. Both he and his business partner, John Hinds (also a Collision Reconstructionist), formed Accident Awareness Inc., and since the inception date of 1993, have spoken to well over a million students, thousands of seniors and countless company employees. Their "Not for profit" company has never charged a high school or a senior centre for the presentations given.
