Topic: Refugee sponsorship in Canada
Canada has welcomed refugees from around the world for three centuries.
In 1830 Polish refugees fled to Canada to escape Russian oppression. Stan Squires is the great-grandson of one such Polish refugee who escaped to London, England.
Stan is currently a Board member of AURA, the Anglican United Refugee Alliance.
He will speak about his work on the Board, his family, his personal experiences over the last decade with the Canadian private sponsorship programme for refugees in Clarington, and how a small rural Ontario community can play a role in the development of Canada’s rich and diverse, cultural, social and economic history.
He will also discuss the current pressures on the programme.
